Glycerin Soap Glycerin - A byproduct of the soap industry, this mildly alkaline liquid is a useful moisturizer for the skin. It can be used on its own, mixed with scented water of added to creams and lotions. At R-Herb Farm we use only vegetable-based glycerin. Basic Glycerin Shampoo - In a stainless steel or glass double boiler, place 1/4 to 1/3 cup grated glycerin soap. Add a pinch of borax. Slowly add 2 cups distilled water. Stir constantly until the water is incorporated with the soap. Bottle and label. Herbal Shampoos - For Herbal Shampoos instead of adding distilled water add an infusion made with any of the herbs listed below. An infusion is made by adding 2 cups water with 2 tbsp herb. Warm the water, like you were going to make tea. Remove from heat and add the Herbs. When the infusion has cooled, strain off the herbs, and combine with the recipe for the basic glycerin shampoo. (Use the infusion in place of the 2 cups distilled water.) Use one or a combination of the following herbs for:
Glycerin Shaving Soap - Glycerin Soap can also be used for a shaving cream. Apply to face or legs as you would any shaving cream. This is more gentle on your skin than commercial shaving creams.
